Cable Drum Schedule: RFQ Checklist for Outdoor Fiber Projects

A total cable quantity is not yet a cable drum schedule. Before an outdoor fiber project is released for supply, the project team needs to relate route sections, splice planning, handling limits and delivery conditions to the quantities being discussed. This guide is an RFQ checklist, not a promise of any standard drum length or continuous manufacturing length.

Start with route sections, not an average length

List each route section and the project’s own requirements for interfaces and installation. A schedule should show the quantity basis clearly enough for the buyer to compare assumptions. The responsible project team must decide the final route and splice arrangement.

What to put on the schedule

  • Section reference and current drawing revision.
  • Required cable category and any confirmed specification.
  • Quantity for the section and any allowance already stated by the project.
  • Known delivery sequence, receiving location and handling restrictions.
  • Open items that need confirmation before release.

Separate project requirements from supplier confirmation

The buyer should provide the project constraints. The supplier can then confirm the relevant quotation assumptions, packaging discussion and available documentation. Neither a generic article nor a total order quantity should be treated as a site installation instruction.

For route information first, see Outdoor Fiber Optic Cable: Route-to-RFQ Checklist. For a power-line RFQ that may also need delivery and project inputs, see the ADSS Cable Span RFQ Checklist.

Submit the schedule with the RFQ

Send the current drawings, section schedule, known specifications, destination, delivery constraints and remaining questions through the Ebocom contact page. The resulting discussion should keep final project approval with the responsible parties.
