“Outdoor fiber optic cable” is not enough information for a comparable quotation. A route may include aerial, duct, direct-buried or transition sections, and each section can carry different project conditions. This checklist helps a buyer turn the available route information into a clearer RFQ. It does not approve a cable design, installation method or site safety plan.
Split the route before comparing cable options
Start with the latest route drawing and divide it into sections that have different installation methods or environments. Record what is confirmed and what remains open. A cable category should not be treated as an automatic approval for every part of a route.
Include these RFQ inputs
| RFQ input | Why include it |
|---|---|
| Route sections and drawings | They show where project conditions change. |
| Installation method for each section | It keeps duct, aerial, buried and transition questions separate. |
| Fiber requirement and known specification | It distinguishes an agreed requirement from an assumption. |
| Interfaces, accessories and delivery destination | They help the buyer state the supply scope to be quoted. |
| Open technical questions | They can be returned to the responsible project team instead of being silently assumed. |
Keep the project decision with the project team
Route engineering, installation planning, applicable standards and acceptance criteria belong to the contract documents and responsible project review. A supplier can discuss a relevant cable category and quotation assumptions once the project information is available; that is different from approving the final system.
For a general explanation of cable families, see Common Types of Fiber Optic Cables. Projects involving power-line routes may also need the separate ADSS Cable Span RFQ Checklist or OPGW Cable Specifications Checklist.
Send the route package for review
Send the route drawing, section list, known specifications, quantity basis, required documents, delivery location and unresolved questions through the Ebocom contact page. This creates a better starting point for a quotation without presenting a generic guide as a project design.
